The Boxing Day walk/jog/run at Castle Caldwell, saw up to thirty athletes turn up and take part, blowing away the previous day’s cobwebs. more

 

 

 

 

27 Dec 2007 - Richard McCarthy & Noel Thomas at Stranorlar on Boxing Day

Club athletes, Richard McCarthy and Noel Thomas made the short journey to Stranorlar on Boxing Day for the traditional handicap 5k.  Richard with a solid 18.30 was pleased with his run while Noel; in his first race since a biking accident last autumn was also pleased to be back running. 

 

 

 

27 Dec 2007 - Christmas Social

The club had their Christmas party night out on Friday 21 December in the Allingham Hotel, Bundoran and there was a large attendance from the club, with partners, boyfriends and girlfriends also attending.  It was a great night and a big thank you to Elizabeth, Peter and the staff of the Hotel for a most enjoyable night.  See website, www.tirchonaillac.com for photos and some more detail.

 

 

 

18 Dec 2007 - Michelle Harvey in Australia

Club athlete Michelle Harvey continues her fine form in Australia with another great run at the'Iinvitational Zatopek 10' meeting held in the Olympic Athletics Park last weekend. Michelle was invited to run at this prestige event after some great performances in the first two rounds of the Victoria track and field league. Going in the 1500m, Michelle clocked a great 4.25.17 to take 6th place behind Olympian Georgie Clarke who won in 4.16.88 and a host of top Australian middle distance athletes. On the Sunday evening competing in round three of the Victoria track and field league, Michelle recorded another fine victory and maximum points for her club SCA with a 4.32.12 for the 1500m.

12 Dec 2007 - Bosco/Bundoran at U9 and U11 Sportshall Championships

A combined effort by athletes from the 'St John Bosco Club' in Donegal Town and the newly established 'Bundoran Juvenile Training Group' competed at the County U-9 and U-11 Sportshall Athletics Championships on Wednesday night at the Finn Valley centre. more

Over four hundred Athletes, Parents and Friends packed the ballroom in the Central Hotel, Donegal Town, on Friday night for the 3rd Annual St John Bosco Athletics Club Presentation Function. more

 

 

 

10 Dec 2007 - Turkey Trot 5k, Letterkenny

Club Athletes Vera Haughey, Sharon Meehan and Jackie Harvey travelled to the popular Letterkenny '5k Turkey Trot' on Sunday last in search of their Christmas dinner. They will have to share the bird as Sharon was the only winner, having correctly predicted her finishing time to within 6 seconds of her actual finishing time. Vera with a good 21.35 was first club athlete home followed by Sharon in 22.26 and Jackie in an equally fine 23.12.

 

 

 

10 Dec 2007 - European Cross-Country Championships in Toro, Spain

There was a special interest for club athlete Richard McCarthy, in the 'European Cross-Country Championships' in Toro, Spain at the weekend, as sister and brother, Lorraine and David McCarthy from 'West Waterford AC' who are niece and nephew to Richard, were competing for their country.  Both Richard and his brother Declan, who competes with City of Derry AC, flew out to Spain on Friday afternoon, to support the juniors and were delighted with the results.  David was first Irish junior man across the line in 9th place while Lorraine was 59th in the junior women’s race.

20 Nov 2007 - David Wilson’s return to Running

More good news reached these shores this week about another of the club’s stalwarts, David Wilson. Many of us remember David as a fine young athlete with tremendous potential who went stateside and seemed to disappear; well the good news is, he has made a successful return to running. Over the weekend he competed and won the MM35+ category in a high quality Chicago 5k, with a time of 16.02 and plans to keep on running. Always eager to keep in touch with the local athletics scene, David was delighted to hear that the TC website was up and running. Welcome back David.

 

 

 

17 Nov 2007 - Michelle Harvey Down-Under

Michelle Harvey continues to impress with her good running-form in Australia. Competing in the 'Premier Track and Field League Round 1' with her club, she won the 1500m in a great 4.33.00 to gain the maximum 12 points. In temperatures nearing 32°C, Michelle ran a cautious first few laps feeling strong and comfortable and with a blistering 50 seconds for the final 300m she moved clear to win by almost a full second from the second placed athlete in 4.33.88.  In round two on the 29th November, Michelle will compete over 3000m.

22 Oct 2007 - Long Run

All nine athletes from the club heading to Dublin for the marathon next weekend have reported a clean bill of health as they enter the final week of wind down. Last Saturday morning we were delighted to welcome our friends from the Rugby Athletic Club in England to join us on our long run, thanks to John Sneddon. It is hoped to arrange an exchange between the two clubs, in the spring, where we can travel over to them to take in some training and a race and they will return to us in the autumn for a similar exercise. 22 Oct 2007 - Michelle Harvey in Melbourne

Michelle Harvey, who is on a years break in Australia, competed at a league meeting and with a super run won the 1500m, in a new pb of 4.36.2, qualifying her for the Australian Championships in December. Training with the local club, Michelle has been going well and her aim for the season is to get the 4.35 required to gain automatic entry into the Australian track and field Grand Prix. Congratulations and well done to Michelle.

22 Oct 2007 - Marie Rooney in Athens at the European Corporate Games

On Saturday last in Athens at the European Corporate Games, club stalward Marie Rooney had an outstanding games. Competing in the colours of the Bank of Ireland, Marie took the gold in the master women 5000m and in doing so finished third overall in the race. Later that afternoon Marie anchored the 4 x 1 mile relay team to a great second spot and silver medals. Sunday was spent visiting the sights around Athens, returning home on the Monday evening.

The club were active on two fronts again last weekend with the Cross-Country opener taking place in Fintra on Saturday and the traditional Grange 10k on the Sunday.  more

At the Grange 10k on Sunday, our women were dominant with Marie Rooney, coming into fine form with a good 43.03 to take first place in her category, followed by Philomena Gallagher, third senior woman with 43.37, with Vera Haughey in 44.33 and Jackie Harvey in 49.51, second and third respectively in their categories. Fresh from their exertions of the previous day at the cross country, Ann Donoghue with 53.09 and Bernie McNeely with 55.12 recorded new personnel bests. Tony Cummins just keeps on getting better with a great 48.02. knocking over two minutes off his previous best for the distance.
