Annual General Meeting 2007

There was a large turn out of club members for the AGM which took place last Friday night in the Central Hotel, Donegal Town.  The meeting was opened by stand in Chairperson Eamon Harvey and comprehensive reports were presented by the Secretary Ethna McLoone, Treasurer John Cannon and PRO / coach Paddy Donoghue.

Ethna in her address, outlined the success of the club at track and field, at the indoors and at national and international level during the past year and noted the emergence of a men’s team at the league, a first for a number of years.  She also identified some areas that the club should consider during the coming year and pledged her full support to the club.

John Cannon in his report outlined the club’s finances in great detail, and produced a healthy balance sheet for the club members.  Both Ethna and John acknowledged the commitment and effort put into the club by certain people during the year and this was evident in the success and presentation of athletes with new gear and sports bags and the turn out at the meeting.  Both also complimented the social committee for their good work in organising regular socials during the year.

PRO and coach Paddy Donoghue thanked the athletes and the support group within the club that helped make the year what it was, stating that for him, the highlight was having both women and men’s team compete again for the club, at both track and field and cross country.  He thanked the club’s main sponsor, Cara Pharmacy, for their generous three year sponsorship deal and another sponsor who wished to remain anonymous.

Paddy also thanked the local press for their heightened coverage of athletics, thus raising the profile of the sport in the county, while mentioning the Donegal Democrat for their detail to club notes, never failing to publish.

In summary, stand in Chairperson Eamon Harvey, said that it had been a tremendous 18 months for the club and that the nucleus was there for the momentum to continue.  He also thanked the outgoing executive, Manus Peoples, Ethna McLoone, John Cannon and Paddy Donoghue for their tireless work during the year, work that often goes unnoticed.
