Ulster/NI Master Cross-Country Championships, Gransha Derry

19 January 2008

The club had two teams compete at the 'Northern Ireland and Ulster Cross-Country Championships' at the Gransha grounds in Derry on Saturday last and the master women’s team came home with silver medals.

First across the line with another powerful run over the country, was club stalwart Marie Rooney in a great 09 place overall and third in her category.  Philomena Gallagher followed in 12th place and eight in her category while Sharon McGowan was a solid 18th and also third in her category with Jackie Harvey a good 21st, with a strong run, completing the team.

The men, depleted by the unavailability of some athletes, performed well with John Cannon first scorer in 50th place followed by an unwell Gary Thomas in 53rd.  How good it is to see Noel Thomas back competing after being sidelined since the autumn after a biking accident left him seriously injured, and running well into 65th place.  The team was completed by Vinny Duffy, who is only recovering from the flue, in 88th place and Tony Cummins, with his best run to date over the country in 89th place.  Well done

to both teams.
