AAI Masters Indoors, Nenagh

Today we saw some of our Master Athletes travel to Nenagh for the AAI National Masters Indoors Championships and what a day it was to be!  Four club athletes, Marie Rooney, Jackie Harvey, Paul Ward and Manus Peoples traveled to compete in their age categories bringing home two gold, four silver and one bronze medal between them.

First on the track at 11.30am was Marie Rooney, going in the 3000m walk. A regular competitor in walk events, having competed for a number of years in the 1500m walks at the national track and field league, Marie gave her usual display of aggressive walking to take a great gold in a superb 18.15. Following this in the early afternoon Marie took a brilliant second place in the 1500m with a time of 5.48.  And if that was not enough, less than two hours later Marie took to the track again to claim another second place and silver medal in the 3000m run, completing a golden and silver medal haul.

Jackie Harvey, always a superb competitor on the track took the 800m by the scruff of the neck and finished a super second in 2.56 to take silver from Mary Sweeney in 2.38.  Jackie followed this with a gritty 400m, taking gold with a good 77sec two lapper.

Paul Ward, in his first ever indoor track race, acquitted himself well to the tight bend running of indoors to take a magnificent third place and bronze medal in his age category in the 3000m, while Manus Peoples had a superb 400m debut at indoors with a second place in his age category. Well done all.
