Supporting the Marathon-Man

On Sunday morning last, several club athletes and members helped out with the long run for our marathon man. Lorcan McGarry, going in the 'Connemara Marathon' took to the roads around Lough Melvin for his 22 miler, accompanied by Marie Rooney, Sharon McGowan, Linda Ward, Shelley Roper, Vinny Duffy, Michael Gallagher and Canice Nicholas, with Tony Cummins and Paddy Donoghue on bikes, Philomena Gallagher in her car and with Bernie McNeely and Ann Donoghue organising the picnic for afterwards, it was a most enjoyable morning.

The club were delighted to welcome Letterkenny AC Athlete Brian Thursby, who is in training for the London Marathon, along for the training run. Starting out in bright sunshine, Marie, Linda and Sharon led Lorcan and Brian through to the ten mile mark with Vinny and Michael taking the mantle and being joined by Shelley and Canice at Garrison for the run home.

All were surprised to arrive at the riverside after the 22 miles to be greeted by a riverside table adorned with food, from breakfast roles to fruit drinks, nuts… you name it and it was on the table, not to mention lovely hot tea and coffee.  A big thank you to all who turned up to support.
