150 Children Enjoy Donegal Sports Partnership Athletics Jamboree in Donegal Town


On Wednesday last 150 children enjoyed a two hour athletics jamboree in the Abbey Voc. School Gymnasium. During the last five weeks coaches Geraldine O’Connor and Jackie Harvey from Tír Chonaill Athletics Club, supported by Donegal Sports Partnership, had pioneered a Sportshall programme in the following primary schools – Scoil Aodh Rua agus Nuala, Scoil an Linbh Iosa, Killymard, Glebe NS, Frosses NS, St Peters Mountcharles, St Eunans and St Ernans National Schools and Robertston School, Ballintra.


Wednesday’s Jamboree was a culmination to the programme and all children – part of five selected teams took part in a race, two field events and a relay. Teachers and children expressed satisfaction at the finish and are looking forward to the new athletics season and being part of yet another jamboree.


The local St John Bosco section of the Tír Conaill Club would like to thank the Abbey Voc School for the use of their excellent facilities, the Transition Year students from the school that ran and officiated during the jamboree, all the Primary Schools that supported the Sportshall programme and Jamboree. All participants were given details of the local athletics clubs training times.


County wide thirty primary schools were involved in the Donegal Sports Partnership supported programme and Dungloe, Innishowen, Letterkenny and FinnValley athletics clubs  will hold similar jamborees in the next few weeks.
