AAI National Track and Field League at Santry

Sunday, 15th June 2008

Sunday saw the club’s women’s team compete in 'Round Two of the AAI National Track and Field League' at Santry and with a brilliant team performance they secured their place in the final once again, finishing level with Abbey on 111 points on the day. Under the guidance of team manager Jackie Harvey, the team competed in all 15 events, taking seven firsts, four seconds and four fourths, to leave them nicely poised for the final.

Geraldine Stewart led the day with maximum points in 100mH, shot putt and Javelin, Mary McLoone, repeating her feat of the previous day, with victories in both horizontal jumps and a second place in the 100m, Marie Rooney, first in the walk and Kitty O’Kennedy first in the 400mH. Guesting for the club was Letterkenny athlete Lisa Shield who took a super second place in the 200m, while Catherine Harvey took second in the high jump and fourth in both the discus and 400m, with Sharon McGowan, fourth in the 1500m and Ethna McLoone a good fourth in the hammer with a new personnel best, while Aoife O’Connor took part in the relays.  Well done to all and the final beckons.
