Bosco Summer Camp a Huge Success


The annual week long St. John Bosco Athletics Club 'Summer Camp' concluded on Friday evening with many tired limbs, happy faces and a few exhausted coaches. The camp attracted 140 children to the multi sport/activity week in the grounds of the Abbey Vocational School.


Camp administrator Pauline O’Gara Maguire indicated that "it was by far the most successful camp we have run to date. The variety of the programme, the enthusiasm, commitment and experitise of the coaching/teaching staff and the invaluable assistance of our young leaders guaranteed that the children had an enjoyable and challenging week".


Chairman of the club Eamon Harvey at the conclusion thanked all the coaches, leaders and administrators led by Pauline Maguire for their huge contribution in the planning and running of the camp. He also thanked the Principal of the Abbey Voc School for the use of the schools extensive facilities and the schools caretaking staff for their assistance. He concluded that all camp staff had volunteered their time and that the extensive profit from the camp would go towards the new club sports multi sports development about to start at the Abbey Voctional School.


The content of the camp  included Tag Rugby; Gaelic Football Skills; Basketball Skills; Soccer Skills; Unihoc; Volleyball Skills; Sportshall Athletics; Art; Dance; Tug o War; Athletics Jamboree; Gymnastics; Olympic Trampoline; Board Games; Adventure Trails; Track and Field Athletics –Long/High Jump; Hurdles/Sprinting/Relays/Shot Putt and Javelin; Inter Group Quiz; Story Telling; and Waterbus trip around Donegal Bay.
