Mick’s Last Long Run

Saturday Morning, 06 Sept 2008

Ballyshannon man Michael Gallagher, a stalwart of the Tír Chonaill Athletics Club, undertook his final long run on Saturday morning 06th September, as he prepares to wind down for his trip to the Berlin Marathon at the end of the month. As is the tradition within the club, members and friends turned out in their numbers to run in relays, with Mick and to prepare a well deserved river side breakfast for all at the end of the run.

Some ten athletes headed off from the riverside at 8.00am accompanied by Tony Cummins and Paddy Donoghue on bikes, and Kevin Connors with vehicle support. Some athletes ran for 45 minutes, others going to 10miles while more continued to the 13mile mark in Garrison.

More club athletes and friends joined in along the way to ensure that Mick had running buddies for the duration of the run.

After the run, all gathered at the riverside where the girls had a hearty warm breakfast, tea and coffee included, ready for all, in glorious sunshine. A big thank you to all who turned up on the morning, to run, support and prepare food, thank you all.
