Tír Chonaill AC 22 Mile Lakeside Run

Saturday 27th September 2008

Twenty three athletes gathered on the riverside beside the Four Masters Bridge along the Moy Road at 7.45am on a cool and overcast Saturday morning for the final long run for the ten athletes in training for the Dublin City Marathon on the Bank Holiday weekend.

Missing from the group was James Bradshaw, who was unavailable on the morning. Heading off through Kinlough the group were assisted by Jackie Spratt, Bernie McNeely and Eileen Ward, who ran to the 10 mile mark.  From there Paul Ward took over and worked with the group all the way to finish. Marie Rooney, Philomena Gallagher and Sharon McGowan joined the group as they crossed the border into Fermanagh, while Jonathan Kennedy, Ann Donoghue, Carina Clarke and Caroline Spratt picked up the mantle in Garrison, taking the group all the way back through Fermanagh, back into Donegal to the riverside, where they were all greeted by well deserved applause and a warm breakfast.

Everyone expressed delight with the run and, apart from a few niggles, everything seems to be on track for the big day. A big thank you to all who helped on the morning, the athletes who assisted with the run, the food preparation, Kevin on vehicle support and Paddy on bike, thank you all.

The marathon group are; Shelley Roper, Vinny Duffy, Canice Nicholas, Tony Cummins, Niall Clancy, Carol Roper, Karen Gilmartin, Maurice McLaughlin, Paul McDevitt, Diarmaid Keon and James Bradshaw, who was unable to be present on the Saturday morning.
