Donegal Senior Cross Country Championship

Sunday 02 November 2008

The club’s senior women turned in another superb display at the 'Donegal Senior Cross-Country Championships' at the Finn Valley Centre on Sunday last to take the team silver medals, with Michelle Harvey producing a magnificent performance to take the individual gold for the first time. Michelle had a brilliant race, laying off the pace in second place over the first two laps, then working her way to the leader Teresa McGloin, before passing her and going on to win the race in fine style. Michele led the team to silver county medals, a mere three points behind Finn Valley, with Philomena Gallagher, having her best race over the country in some time, taking 9th place from a gallant Marie Rooney in 10th and Sharon McGowan in 13th, completing the team. Congratulations girls.

For our men, it was disappointing again to be without a team, but none the less we saw some good running from Paul Ward with an excellent 7th place, Noel Thomas in 26th, Richard McCarthy in 30th and Mark Walsh in 36th, in a race that had the largest field in many years. Well done all.
