Magherafelt’s new indoor area, locally known as Meadowbank, was the venue last Thursday for the 'Ulster Under 13 and 15 Sportshall Finals'. Two weeks ago, four Donegal Teams qualified for this prestigious event. The attraction for the winning team in all four categories is to represent Ulster in the British Finals on Saturday 21st March in Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre.

Under 13 Girls and Boys

Donegal’s Under 13 Girls and Boys Teams were impressive team winners while the counties Under 15 Team were 2nd with the Boys Under 15 squad finishing third. Tír Chonaill quartet Kelly McGrory, Emma Brady, Kate McGowan and Karen Tracey made a huge contribution to the overall Donegal victory score of 711pts. Est Belfast 600pts and Derry City 494pts filled the minor placings.

Kelly McGrory won her heat of the two lap race and fought all the way to the line to record an impressive victory in the final. With a 49cm Vertical jump she finished 2nd and added valuable points. Karen Tracey high jumped 1.30m for third and in the very demanding 6 lap final finished 6th for more valuable points. Under 15 Girls and Boys

The Girls Under 15 team finished 2nd with a point’s total of 576 points – 18 pts behind winners Derry City. Injuries forced team manager Neil Cullen to change his team around at short notice. A fully fit Donegal team would have qualified for the Birmingham final.

Tír Chonaill pair Molly O’Gara and Clare Brady played a very important role in the six girl team total of 576pts. Donegal scorers were Aisling Cunningham, 129pts, Kayla Farren, 128pts, Nuala Byrne, 95pts, Molly O’Gara, 94pts, Clare Brady, 76pts, Elish McGinley, 75pts.
