Finn Valley Track

There was further success for our young athletes on Friday Evening last when they competed at the 'Donegal Children’s Games' for athletes in the U-9 to U-13 age groups. The well organised event, hosted by Finn Valley AC, brought many medals to the club, across all age groups, with perhaps the performance of the evening being the club’s 1-2-3 in the U-13 girls 80m, with gold for Kate McGowan, silver to Sarah Timoney and bronze to Eva McMullin with Katie McCafferty a good fifth. Kate also won the long jump with a leap of 3.62m and claimed a bronze in the javelin.

For the U-13 boys we had silver for Dillon McGloin and bronze for Daire O’Reilly in the high jump, while Daire was a good silver in both the 600m and long jump. David Timoney fought hard for bronze in the 80m final, with Brendan Oates, also taking bronze, in the shot putt.

Moving to the U-12 where again we saw several good performances, with silver for Megan McGee in the high jump and bronze for Aimee McCafferty in the ball throw.

The U-10’s continued with great silvers for Matthew Duffy and Mary Flora Scott, both in the 500m and bronze for Darragh Ward in the ball throw, at his first competition. Completing the medal haul was Matthew McGloin, taking a super gold in the U-9’s ball throw. Most of these athletes will now go on to compete at the Ulster/Northern Ireland championships, which this year takes place on the Danny McDaid track in Letterkenny on Sunday 7th June. There were many other good performances from all the athletes who travelled and competed and several will have gained from the experience.  Well done to all.
