Sunday 31st May is an historic date for Tír Chonaill Athletics Club. The women from the club won the 'Irish National League' last August and qualified to represent Ireland in the 'European Clubs Cup' in 2009.


The venue,  Dubnica in Western Slovakia, will  have the following clubs representations:

Sparta Copenhagen, Denmark;

Sale Harriers Manchester, GB;

AK Crvena Zvezda Beograd,Servia;

Unitas Nieuwstadt, Holland;

C.A. Montreuil, France;

LG ASV/DSHS Koln, Germany;

AK Spartak Dubnica nan Váhom, Slovakia;

Tír Chonaill, Ireland;


Early this week a Tír Chonaill representative summarised the visit to Eastern Europe as follows.

Last August following our victory in the National League we decided to accept the invitation to represent Ireland in this prestigious competition. We realise that the French, German and British representatives are former European A Division clubs and possess numerous Olympians in their ranks. Our primary goal will be to have at least six personal/club best performances in the twenty event programme. We do have  a number of experienced International athletes in our ranks i.e. Mary McLoone, Rachael Akers, Michele Harvey and Marie Rooney supported by a number of nationally ranked young athletes’  In total a team of twenty nine including, athletes, support team and supporters will make the journey. The team led by multi International athlete Mary Mc Loone includes Marie Rooney, Michelle Harvey, Catherine Harvey, Ethna McLoone, guests Teresa McGloin, Rachael Akers, Olivia McDonald, and youngsters Lisa Shields, Louise Harvey, Aoife O’Connor and Kitty O’Kennedy. Paddy Donoghue, Team Leader, Jackie Harvey, Manager, Pat McManus, Medical support and Eamon Harvey, Coach will lead the support team. We wish the entire squad good luck on their historic venture'.
