Tír Chonaill AC Juvenile Awards Night

Sunday 6th December 2009


The Ballroom in the Central Hotel Donegal Town, was thronged on Sunday evening, 6th December  for the annual Tir Chonaill athletics juvenile awards night. Prior to the presentations which recognised the numerous and varied achievements of club athletes during the 2009 season, recently elected Club Charman Paul O’Gara in a welcoming address indicated that Tir Chonaill with over 300 members was the largest and most successful athletics club in Ulster. He congratulated all the award winners, and thanked the coaching staff and administrators in the club who weekly organise and manage training sessions in Bundoran, Ballyshannon and Donegal Town, and ensure that the club goes from success to success.

Eamon Harvey, introducing special guests and International club athletes Mary McLoone and Marie Rooney outlined the many achievements of both over the years and indicated that Marie and Mary had come through the juvenile ranks of the club and were excellent role models for all assembled. He also congratulated and thanked the numerous competitive successes of juvenile club athletes during the year, the variety of successful programmes ran within the club - including coach education - and the new and modern club facility developed in partnership with Donegal VEC to be officially opened early in 2010. He concluded by thanking all who contiuue to support the club on an ongoing basis and indicated that ‘a few tickets were still available in the upcoming club draw’.



Overall Male Athlete of the Year - Karl Griffin

Achievements include - Ulster Gold 800m Indoor, AAI Silver 800m Indoor, Ulster Schools Gold 800m,Irish Schools Silver 800m,Ulster Clubs Gold 800m Outdoor, AAI Clubs Gold 800m Outdoor, Celtic Games International Gold 800m.

Male Athlete of the Year - Karl Griffin



Overall Female athlete of the year - Louise Harvey

Achievements include -Won 60 m H indoors at Ulster and nationals, won two Ulster golds at 100 mH and 300 mHurdles, won two all Ireland Golds at 100 mH and 300 mH, Bronze at 300 m H in Celtic International, County Donegal AAI Star award winner 2008, Ulster Star award winner 2009.
